An extremely rare and superb example of a large woman's paddle from the Cayapas or Chachilla people of Ecuador. Additional references and pictures can be found in "The Cayapa Indians of Ecuador" by Samuel Alfred Barrett published in 1925 by the Heye Foundation, Museum of the American Indian / Smithsonian. This publication showssimilar examples and field photographs with such paddles being used by women aboard river canoes.
