A MEANINGFUL DIALOGUE
During the week of Paris Tribal — the leading international event dedicated to the ancient arts of Africa, Oceania and the Americas — Galerie Flak joins forces with Galerie BSL, an iconic name in collectible art & design, for a joint exhibition. Together, they present Conversations, a manifesto show that dissolves the boundaries between eras and disciplines.
There are encounters that do not arise from contrast, but from a kind of inevitability.
An ancestral figure from Oceania or a Hopi Katsina figure, shaped to embody a presence. A work of design by Badara Ndiaye, conceived to structure a space. Gestures distant in time, yet driven by the same inner necessity.
Conversations was born of this intuition: works do not oppose one another — they extend each other. To look differently at works we thought we knew. To perceive what, across eras, connects them.
This exhibition speaks to an open-minded collector, free from traditional categories — one who envisions their interior as a whole, where excellence of form creates the bridge between eras.
“Placing a centuries-old statue alongside a piece of design means allowing two temporalities to speak within the same space. That is the very meaning of Conversations.” Julien Flak
